PURPOSE

The goal of the International symposium Dissemination and implementation of the OECD in vitro and in silico methods applicable to the safety and risk assessment of the chemicals, food, and feed is to bring together the international experts from the particular fields and to spread expert information about the alternative methods (in vitro, in silico) to the target scientific community. Symposium will be focused on the countries of the Visegrad Group (Slovak Republic, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland) and neighboring countries with Slovakia  (Austria and Ukraine).

The symposium be will a two-day event organised in Bratislava with theoretical presentations and practical demonstrations as well the Round table discussion about the implementation of OECD methods (in vitro and in silico) in the countries of the Visegrad Group, Austria, and Ukraine. Theoretical lectures of the invited experts will be given by two OECD experts (genotoxicity, developmental toxicity), an ECHA expert (OECD QSAR toolbox), and an expert from EFSA (OpenFoodTox database), and one national representative (implementation of the alternative methods and 3Rs in Slovakia - SNP3Rs platform).

The practical demonstration will be divided into 2 groups of participants (in vitro and in silico tools). Smaller groups of participants will have the opportunity to see the practical demonstration of the selected in vitro methods on 3D reconstructed tissue models as well as the opportunity to work with the PC simulations and databases.

If the epidemiological situation would not be favorable, the symposium will be held as a one-day online event on the 24th of May 2021 and the practical demonstrations will be provided as pre-recorded presentations via the electronic conference platform. The necessary information will be provided in sufficient time before the event.

ORGANISERS

The event is co-organized by the Department of Food Safety and Nutrition of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic (MARD SR) (established as the Slovak Focal Point for the Scientific and Technical Matters of the European Food Safety Authority as well as the Slovak National contact point for the PARERE Network) and the Slovak Toxicology Society SETOX.

The symposium has been financially supported by the:

- Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic (MZVaEZ SR), trough the “Mechanism of MZVaEZ SR for joint projects of the Slovak Republic and the OECD“,

- European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), trough the financial resources based on the grant agreement with the Slovak Focal Point for the scientific and technical matters of the EFSA.

The scientific guarantor of the project is the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology, Centre of Experimental Medicine, Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS).
